Setting: Deep in the frozen wilderness of Finnish Lapland lies a clandestine research outpost built atop a newly uncovered "source ice" deposit - a strange and unstable material affected by Rift energy. The site, though remote, is heavily fortified and defended by elite Finnish forces wielding experimental Frost Tech.
Overview:
A covert Finnish operation has led to the discovery of source ice, a volatile crystal with unique energy-reactive properties. Under the leadership of the eccentric Professor Vaananen, a research team has begun experimenting with Rift energy and its interaction with source ice, resulting in terrifying new technologies.
This outpost poses a major strategic threat - and an irresistible scientific opportunity. Your mission is to strike the facility before it can complete its research or weaponize Frost Tech further.
The Game Master (GM) controls the Finnish defenders and the layout of the outpost. The players may use any faction to assault the outpost and pursue one or more objectives. This is an asymmetrical mission - the Finnish defenders are elite, entrenched, and dangerous.
The Finnish Defenders (GM-Controlled):
Frost Seers: A master of thermal manipulation, can create cold zones, obscure visibility, and detect heat signatures.
Ice Golem: An enormous, animated construct of solid source ice. Resistant to conventional weapons, slow-moving, and capable of freezing enemies with a sweeping aura.
Ice shock troopers: Elite Finnish troops armed with (Frost Projectors) for brutal close-range engagements.
Ice Troll: An unstable mutant created by failed Frost Tech tests. Usually contained in the sub-levels but can be released as a last resort.
Finnish Infantry: Regular troops equipped with (Frost Grenades). Deployed in trenches, bunkers, and defensive lines.
Mission Objectives (Players Choose 1-2 or Roll Randomly):
Capture Professor Vaananen alive.
Secure and extract 3 source ice canisters.
Destroy the Sisu Golem.
Breach and control the main research facility for 3 turns.
Sabotage the outpost's Rift core.
Special Rules:
Extreme Cold: Reduce movement of all non-winterized vehicles by -1". Units in open terrain suffer morale penalties during blizzards.
Source Ice Instability: At the start of each turn, roll a D6:
1-2: Energy surge - a Frost Tech unit gets +1 to hit.
3-4: Rift distortion - place a Rift anomaly (dangerous terrain).
5-6: Cold pulse - nearby units test morale or take a pin.
Entrenched Defenders: The outpost includes bunkers, barricades, minefields, and sensors.
Frost Tech Effects:
Frozen Aura: Units near the Sisu Golem or Seer move -1".
Thermal Cloak: Finnish units can't be targeted beyond 18" by indirect fire.
Freezing Weapons: Frost weapons cause pinning on 4+, even without damage.
Optional Complications:
A sudden blizzard reduces visibility to 12".
The Isko Trolli escapes and becomes a neutral threat.
The source ice deposit destabilizes, dealing D6 hits in 8".
Enemy reinforcements arrive mid-battle.
Professor Vaananen attempts to flee on a snow skimmer.
Scenario Tone:
This is a one-sided raid on a remote Arctic research base. The players are the aggressors - striking against the odds, navigating hostile tech and treacherous weather. The GM should emphasize cinematic pacing, eerie cold, and the dangers of unstable Rift technology.
